“Getting an Excel routine to work in both Windows and the Mac is fifty percent programming and fifty percent fixing Microsoft’s own bugs!” (me)
For many years I had developed my own software, WinChart, from QuickBasic (remember that?!?) through to VB6. However, in order to support other platforms, in particular the Mac, it would be necessary to rewrite the software. Since Excel worked on both Windows and the Mac I decided to try to re-write the software in VBA, being very similar to VB6. The above quote sums up my efforts. I did get a version working (ok in Windows, clunky on the Mac), but decided that it was not slick enough to be able to offer it to my users. In particular, the chart routine in Excel was too slow and 'buggy', so I decided to draw my own charts by making an EMF metafile: Windows can make these easily, but for the Mac the file would have to be made manually. It is this part that needed my efforts.
However, in early 2014, due to personal problems, I had to stop work on it, but will resume soon. I plan to share this work with you, but before that I am sharing some helpful bug-fixing routines. In particular, a way to get a bitmap picture showing in a userform on the Mac at runtime (see the above link). Others to follow. :)
